In any retail store, floor space is at a premium. Store owners need to ensure that they are getting the best possible return per square foot, so it is extremely important, when introducing point of purchase retail displays, to consider size, functionality and cost.
Many retailers are reluctant to bear the cost of point of purchase retail displays, which can mean lost sales for you. It is therefore often better to put together a package deal e.g. $X worth of product plus a free display. Or you could offset the cost of the display against future reorders.
Whatever method you choose, you need to have a clear outline of the total cost of your point of purchase display (including products) for the retailer as well as their potential return. Putting together a Sell Sheet is a really useful method of simplifying things for the retailer and will help you to close more deals (click the link to find out more.)
It is often tempting to overload your point of purchase display with as much product as possible, but this is likely to have a negative impact on the retailer. Not only can this make the display look too bulky, it will drive up the overall cost. It is much better to have fewer products on a display that will sell quicker and encourage re-orders.
If you are planning to introduce point of purchase retail displays there are several other things that you need to consider such as:
- Height and weight restrictions – many retailers have rigid policies when it comes to point of purchase displays. You need to be aware of these before you proceed with manufacturing.
- Liability – your display needs to be structurally sound with no sharp edges or features, which could cause injury to customers.
- Number of sides – depending on their store layout some retailers are not able to accommodate multi-sided displays.
- Static or spinner – Spinner displays are a great way to optimize your display area, without taking up more floor space.
